Run the Race

As followers of Christ, God has called each one of us to run the race for Him. Last month God brought a new twist to our race at Calvary. Steve and Robin Rains, who have been our lead pastor’s for the last seven and a half years, were called away from Calvary. Their ministry has blessed us and Goodland, KS. . Hebrews 12:1-2
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. [2] Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
I have had the opportunity to be track coach for the last several years and the thing that we need to understand is if a runner looks backwards that can cost him the race. The runners’ job and focus must be to run as fast and hard as they can, not looking back, but looking at the finish line. God is calling us to look a head. Lots wife looked back and turned into a pillar of salt (Gen 19:26). God wants Calvary to continue in this race and we can’t look at the past or compare the past because it will keep us from present and rob us of our future. This is a time to bring encouragement and excitement into Calvary. We need to rejoice that God has it in control. It is his church! The second verse tells us to fix our eyes on Jesus. That is our part, to fall deeper in love with Christ and become more like Him. If we keep our eyes on Jesus, HE will take care of everything else (Matt 6:33-34). I am truly excited about what God has in store for US!

Sincerely,
Pastor Ben

Weekly Scripture: Romains 15:1,2,3
1 We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves.
2 Each of us should please his neighbor for his good, to build him up.
3 For even Christ did not please himself but, as it is written: "The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me."
